Student injured after BB pistol shot ricochets
Officers charged Derek Gleason, a freshman at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, with a violation of city ordinances at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Oakwood Cemetery on the 700 block of Comstock Avenue, according to a police report.
Gleason and some friends were firing a BB pistol at a tree in the cemetery at a distance of about 10 feet when a BB bounced off the tree and struck Gleason in the right eye, the report stated.
Gleason was transported to Crouse Hospital with a swollen eye, the report added.
The BB pistol was gone upon police arrival, and Gleason said one of his friends must have picked it up, the report stated.
An unidentified individual broke into sophomore social science major Drew Bucktooth’s car between 12 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 200 block of Small Road, according to a police report.
The individual broke the rear window of Bucktooth’s car and stole a speaker box with two 12-inch subwoofers, a laptop and a guitar, the report added.
