Hendricks Chapel Dean Tiffany Steinwert is leaving Syracuse University for Wellesley College in Massachusetts, the university announced Tuesday.

Steinwert will serve as dean of religious and spiritual life at Wellesley and to fill her role at SU, Samuel Clemence was named interim dean of Hendricks. Steinwert is scheduled to leave the university on Aug. 15, according to an SU News release.

“Tiffany’s gracious leadership of Hendricks Chapel has served our community well,” said Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, senior vice president and dean of student affairs, in the release.

Steinwert has been the dean of Hendricks since 2010.

Clemence is currently the Meredith professor emeritus of civil and environmental engineering and has more than 37 years of teaching experience at SU, according to the release. He has also been a member of the university’s Spiritual Life Council. He became interim dean on Aug. 1.

“Sam understands the culture of both Syracuse University and Hendricks Chapel and is able to work with diverse people from many faith traditions,” Kantrowitz said.

Clemence will serve as interim dean until a committee starts a nationwide search for a permanent dean in January 2016.
