Student Association clarifies points of upcoming election forum

The Student Association will be hosting an election forum on April 12. This forum is not mean to “perpetuate a stigma of exclusivity” that is being assumed by The Daily Orange’s editorial. If the Daily Orange feels that the Student Association is acting exclusively, we urge you to reach out to the SA President, Boris Gresely, to further discuss these perceptions.

The Student Association cannot sponsor a debate that includes the write in candidates because the Student Association does not recognize these candidates as official candidates. Seeing that these candidates do not follow the same rules as those who are official Student Association candidates, it would not be a fair debate.

In addition, the decision to host the forum has not been made by SA President, Boris Gresley. The decision to host this forum has been made by the Board of Elections and Membership, which the president does not have jurisdiction over.

We would like to reiterate that all candidates can be invited to participate in a debate. However, the Student Association cannot sponsor this debate. We highly encourage The Daily Orange to host a debate with all of the candidates.
