Syracuse midfielder Kelly Cross has been suspended indefinitely due to a violation of team rules, SU Athletics confirmed Friday shortly after noon.

Cross was the driver of the car that crashed into the Mount Olympus stairwell Monday morning, DPS confirmed on Thursday.

Cross, a junior, checked into Upstate Hospital between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Monday, a receptionist said. She was released later that day.

The white Ford Explorer that Cross was driving snapped four support poles and sent a newspaper box about 25 feet. The crash was reported at 2:27 a.m. and the cause is still unknown.

She is lucky to be alive, a DPS officer said Monday morning.

The stairs are still closed for repairs and will re-open by Friday evening, the assistant director of Flint Hall said in an email to Mount residents Thursday.

Cross has started every game for the Orange this season and is fourth on the team in goals (14), assists (six) and points (20). She’s scored eight goals in the past four games and scored three against Northwestern on Sunday, the day before the crash.

No. 6 Syracuse (8-3, 1-1 Atlantic Coast) travels to Durham, North Carolina to face No. 4 Duke (9-1, 3-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
