George McDonald, speaking here at his introductory press conference, has left Syracuse to become North Carolina State's wide receivers coach.

Syracuse wide receivers coach George McDonald has accepted the same position at North Carolina State, North Miami Beach (Florida) High School head coach Jeff Bertani confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Bertani is also a close friend of McDonald’s. The move was first reported by Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans on Tuesday morning.

McDonald was demoted from offensive coordinator in early October and was openly unhappy with head coach Scott Shafer’s decision to make him the wide receivers coach. Tim Lester was promoted to offensive coordinator, and Shafer said toward the end of the season that Lester would return at the position in 2015.

Rumors arose several days ago regarding a possible move to Florida for McDonald, but instead he’ll take the same job for the Wolfpack, which is in Syracuse’s division in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Syracuse travels to Raleigh, North Carolina to play N.C. State in the upcoming season.
