Syracuse forward Tyler Roberson sat out the Orange's victory over Loyola on Tuesday with an abdominal strain, according to a Post-Standard report.

Forward Tyler Roberson sat out Syracuse’s (4-1) 70-37 win over Loyola (2-3) in the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night, and SU head coach Jim Boeheim said the sophomore forward is looking to be back on the court in “two or three days.”

“He just hasn’t been able to be effective because he’s not able to move the way he needs to,” Boeheim said after the game. “So we’re hoping that, you know, this could be something that can get better in a few days. If not, we’ll just see how long it takes. We’re just going to have to wait.”

Boeheim called Roberson’s injury a “strained something” and wouldn’t go into any further detail. The Post-Standard reported it as an abdominal strain prior to the game. He was replaced in the starting lineup by sophomore forward B.J. Johnson, who finished with six points, nine rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes.

Syracuse guards Kaleb Joseph and Trevor Cooney both said the starting lineup didn’t feel much different, just that Johnson is more of a perimeter threat and Roberson — who watched the game in a blue Syracuse jumpsuit — is more partial to the mid-range game. In Roberson’s absence, Boeheim’s rotation included sophomore center Chinonso Obokoh and the Orange opted for smaller lineups more than it has all season.

As far as Johnson’s fill-in start went, Boeheim wasn’t particularly impressed.

“He’s just, I don’t know,” Boeheim said of Johnson before laughing behind the podium. “I don’t know.”

The Orange will host Holy Cross in the Carrier Dome at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Boeheim said later in his press conference that he does not know if Roberson will return for that game.
