Clarkson blows out Syracuse 9-0

Clarkson broke Syracuse’s four-game streak of ties with a 9-0 blowout.

The Golden Knights (4-3-0) spared no time, grabbing the lead 21 seconds into the game on a Shannon MacAulay goal. MacAulay, a Clarkson winger, tallied the opening goal and assisted on three others for the Golden Knights. Five other Clarkson players notched goals against Syracuse (1-2-4) in Potsdam, New York on Saturday.

Syracuse allowed four first period goals, two coming off the stick of Clarkson center Genevieve Bannon. She recorded a hat trick in the game and assisted on two other goals. The Golden Knights stifled SU, allowing only five shots in the period.

Jenn Gilligan, SU’s goalie, made 10 stops in the second period, allowing only one goal and slowing the Clarkson attack. The Orange couldn’t capitalize on Gilligan’s stops, though, registering just six shots.

The third period mirrored the first, as Clarkson exposed SU’s defense again, scoring four goals. Head coach Paul Flanagan pulled Gilligan for Amanda Cariddi with less than 13 minutes left in the game. Carridi gave up two goals in spot duty.

Clarkson capitalized on its chances burying nine of its 20 shots and converting on its only power play. SU wasted its 19 shots and three power plays.

The Orange finishes off a home-and-home with Clarkson on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
