SU shocks Boston College: Now what?

By the time Diamond Ferri had removed his cape, the Orange had secured one of its most important wins AM (After McNabb), a victory longtime assistant coach George DeLeone labeled one of the five biggest wins he’s had since he’s been at Syracuse. Here’s why the Boston Massacre was so big.

SYRACUSE BECOMES BOWL ELIGIBLE
At 6-5, the Orange will most likely not be home for the holidays for the first time since 2001, when SU went 10-3. It appears SU will be headed to either the Motor City Bowl in Detroit, the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu or the Las Vegas Bowl. Not to be overlooked is the three extra weeks of practice SU will now have to develop young talent, which is nearly akin to earning a second spring practice session.

SYRACUSE WINS SHARE OF BIG EAST
The win gave SU a 4-2 conference record, giving them a piece of the crown with BC, West Virginia and likely BCS team Pittsburgh. Though there are more champs than non-champs in the seven-team Big East, that doesn’t diminish the title for SU. ‘All I know,’ running back Damien Rhodes said, ‘is that I get a ring. I don’t care how I got it.’
BOSTON COLLEGE DOESN’T MAKE THE BCS
With the jumble of mediocrity at the top, the Big East is still the BCS’ red-headed stepchild. But at least that nightmare wasn’t compounded by ACC defector BC representing the conference on a national stage.
COACH P’S LAST STAND
Most likely, the win was too little, too late to save Paul Pasqualoni’s job. If so, at least the Orange gave him a fitting send-off, something the coach certainly deserves after 14 years of credible service.
